Clinical Excellence with UHMS Accreditation.
Vassar Brothers Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center has been awarded National Accreditation by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). VBMC is the only hospital in Dutchess County to receive this achievement and one of 10 Wound Care Centers in New York with this distinction. UHMS Accreditation demonstrates that our facility has met national standards for quality, clinical excellence, safety and enhanced peer recognition as a legitimate medical sub-specialty.
We are a Center of Excellence and staffed with proper specialists who are well-trained. Our team consists of 11 registered nurses, 3 specialty technicians, 2 front desk coordinators, clinical and medical directors and 3 panel physicians. All clinical staff are trained by approved certified courses in hyperbaric medicine.
Medical Director, Daniel M. Goldman, MD, FACS, ABPM/UHM is the only physician in the region board certified in undersea and hyperbaric medicine; and the Center is also proud to have the only certified hyperbaric technician Trudi Parker, LPN, CHT. We have 3 panel physicians who are credentialed in hyperbaric medicine. Francine Brooks, MD, FACEP is board certified in internal medicine and emergency medicine. Ziad Abouezzi, MD, MBA, FACS and Kang Kim, MD, FACS are both board certified in general surgery.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) is the medical use of oxygen at a level higher than atmospheric pressure. A chamber is used to deliver 100% oxygen under pressure. A typical course of treatment involves 30 sessions. Each treatment is called a “dive” and lasts for approximately 90 minutes. Common indications for HBOT are diabetic foot infections, refractory osteomyelitis, arterial insufficiencies, compromised grafts and flaps, necrotizing soft tissue infections, delayed radiation injury, traumatic ischemia, gas gangrene, air or gas embolism, carbon monoxide poisoning and decompression sickness.
Research Study:
The Vassar Brothers Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center is one of 20 sites invited to participate in a national study for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. The study is called OSIRIS 302 and is a multicenter, adaptive design, randomized, single-blind study with an open-label extension option to further evaluate the safety and efficacy of Grafix® for the treatment of chronic diabetic foot ulcers. Grafix® is an FDA approved Bio Skin using placental cell based growth factors, to increase the time and efficiency of chronic diabetic foot ulcer healing. The study’s objective is 100% wound closure with 12 weeks of treatment for participants treated with the investigational product. We are excited to be part of the OSIRIS 302 investigative team and offer such cutting edge treatment options to our patients. We are seeking potential study participants. Please call (845) 431-2400 for more information.
